Align on the structure on the interview with the interviewer(s).
The hiring company representative introduces themselves (~2 minutes).
Objectives and context of the meeting are recalled (~2 minutes).
The hiring company describes the project, while the candidate asks pre-prepared questions (~10 minutes).
Candidate reformulates the hiring company’s needs (~2 minutes).
Candidate confirms their understanding (~1 minute).
Candidate presents their experience tailored to the project, from general to specific, validating understanding at each step (~15 minutes).
Q&A and buffer (~10 minutes).
Align on next steps.
Maintain professional non-verbal communication: posture, eye contact, appropriate dress, and calm demeanor.
Communicate clearly and confidently, without arrogance.
Use structured explanations and tailor your experience to the project rather than reciting your CV.
Reformulate the hiring company’s needs to show understanding.
Handle difficult or sensitive questions professionally and neutrally.
Stay attentive, engaged, and composed throughout the discussion.
Using pauses (“good use of silence”) to think before answering.
Candidates may face unexpected or sensitive questions. Here are examples of recommended approaches:
Unknown technology: “I worked with several related technologies. Could you please share more about your expectations regarding this one?”
Sensitive or illegal questions (e.g., religion): “I cannot answer this question as it is confidential and not relevant to the interview.”
Salary or rate negotiations: “Could you please share what is the current budget for this position?”
Overqualification concerns: Answer differently depending on the moment, focus on motivation, adaptability, and value added.
Availability: “When would be the ideal start date from your perspective?”
Proper handling of objections demonstrates professionalism and maturity.
